Kamau Studios LLC produces creative studio portraits, photography-based fine art, and visual storytelling projects. With story as the focal point we work with families, brands, and organizations to craft narratives that celebrate the joys of life. Our work has been featured in the New York Times, Tribecafilm.com, NBC, WNBC, The New York Observer, Essence, and the Huffington Post.

Our flagship storytelling project is Black Gotham Experience, an immersive visual storytelling project founded in 2010 that celebrates the impact of the African Diaspora on New York City. Black Gotham is a real and imagined place, an expansive public experience that includes interactive walking tours through Manhattan’s Financial District, a developing series of photography-based graphic novels, and a web series, weaving together art, research, fashion and entertainment. The heart of this experience are three stories that revisit Manhattan in 1623 and move forward through the next three centuries: Other Side of Wall Street, Caesar’s Rebellion, and Citizen Hope. Black Gotham Experience has won awards and grants from Columbia University’s History in Action Project and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
